John Denver was a superstar performer who influenced millions of people by his popular-folk hits, many of which were based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in affection with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. More than a few people beat a path through Colorado after hearing Denver's popular tunes for the state he was raised in. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said that John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the very initial Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. Denver is now the embodiment of Colorado for everyone around the world. In my journeys, you encounter someone on the other side of the world someone of New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short stint in small folk bands. Danoff composed the track with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver could hear an early version and knew it was going to be an instant hit in the top 10. The song was recorded just two weeks following the Washington D.C. performance.
